Medicare Eligibility

Medicare Eligibility Requirements

Becoming eligible for Medicare can be as easy (or hard) as celebrating your 65 birthday. Once you turn 65 years of age you are automatically eligible to enroll in Medicare as long as you meet the following requirements.

  • You are a U.S citizen
  • You have worked an accumulated 10 years over your lifetime so far
  • Your spouse worked an accumulated 10 years over their work history
  • You are eligible to receive Social Security benefits but have not filed for it yet
  • You or your spouse worked for the government

What if I am Under the age of 65?

If you are under the age of 65 you can still qualify for full Medicare benefits. You can qualify for full Medicare Coverage under the age 65 if

  • You have received social security disability insurance for at least 24 months (doesn't have to be consecutive)
  • You have been diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease

If you have been receiving Social Security Disability checks for 24 months, you will automatically be enrolled in Medicare 2 years later, at the beginning of the 25th month. If you are unsure whether you qualify for Medicare Coverage speak with a professional today for more information.

Medicare Part A Eligibility

The qualifications for Medicare Part A is the same as Medicare. You must be 65 years of age, a citizen of the United States, and work for at least 10 years in the U.S. If you legally worked 10 years in the U.S then you paid taxes towards your Part A hospital benefits. This is the reason most Americans do not pay monthly premiums for Part A coverage. Medicare Part A coverage can be purchased if you do not meet the requirements for Medicare but it will come at a cost.

Medicare Part B Eligibility

If you are eligible for Part A then you are eligible for Part B coverage . Unlike Part A, Medicare Part B costs a monthly premium. These monthly premiums cover the medical services and supplies that are necessary to treat your health conditions. Find out if Medicare Part B coverage is right for you by speaking with one of our Medicare Specialists today.

Medicare Part C Eligibility

Medicare Part C, also known as a Medicare Advantage plan, is additional insurance coverage offered through a private company. In order to be eligible for a Medicare Advantage plan you must already have Medicare Part A and Part B and live in the plan's service area. Once enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan you cannot terminate your Part A or Part B coverage. These coverages need to stay in place in order for you to remain eligible.

Medicare Part D Eligibility

Medicare Part D , or Drug Coverage, is a great option if you frequently prescribed medication from your healthcare provider. To become eligible for Part D coverage you must be enrolled in either Medicare Part A or Medicare Part B or both. You must also live in the plan's service area. Learn how to enroll and if Part D coverage makes sense for you!

Medigap Eligibility

Medigap plans, also called Medicare Supplement Plans , were created to work hand in hand with Original Medicare. A Medicare Supplement Plan fills the gaps that Medicare does not cover, hence the name Medigap. In order to be eligible for Medigap insurance you must first have Original Medicare (Part A & Part B). If you are under the age of 65 you can still purchase a Medicare Supplement plan but it may cost more for you than a person over the age of 65. Medigap policies can be of great benefit when paired with an Original Medicare Plan.
